Cain Harland

Position: Web Developer / Programmer

As Spiral's programmer Cain builds databases and other made-to-order applications like our re-vamped e-newsletter. He writes server-side code (the stuff that happens on the server before a web page is sent to your screen) and client-side code (what happens once the client machine downloads it, like Java script).

In his web developer role, Cain creates website templates and works on the regular maintenance and updating of Spiral clients' websites.

What Cain enjoys most about programming is the problem-solving. And he enjoys the creative side of design work, especially Flash.

Cain is a diligent and highly competent web developer and designer, with a Natcoll Diploma of Web Design. He enjoys being challenged, working with people and learning new things.

More About Cain

Cain left high school from the 6th form & went straight to university to do a BSc in Chemistry. Finding that he enjoyed biology more he changed his major and completed his degree in biology - including a 3rd-year paper on dung fungus(!)

Deciding that biology wasn't a career path he wanted to follow, Cain worked for a while as a personal trainer and completed a Gym Instructors' Certificate. He got into website development by creating his own website for his personal trainer work. He enjoyed building his website so much that he went back to school and did a design diploma at NatColl, thinking he would design sites and hire out the boring code stuff - only to find that he enjoyed the coding side even more.

In his spare time Cain practises Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, a specialised form with an emphasis on ground fighting. He is an active participant in the sport, competing in the 2005 Sport Ju Jitsu National competition.
