Get Found on Google

Two steps to getting better results from Google.

When listing your website in it's search results, Google considers over a hundred factors and keeps most of them a secret. To promote your website and business, I suggest you focus on two important factors:

RELEVANCE

Relevance is all about getting your website listing to display when someone searches for your product or service. There is fierce competition for some products so we, small business owners, need to be creative and smart if we want a high listing. These two steps will help.

Step 1: What really are your keywords and phrases? What will your customers type into the Google search box to find you?
Narrow this down and be VERY targetted. For example if you are selling Maori Kites then your key phrases might be
"maori kites for sale"
"buy maori kites"
"ethnic kites"
"Kites" on its own will be nearly useless because you will be competing for a listing on Google with every other kite selling website in the world. You might also choose to target people in your country, region or city.

Do some research, ask people what they would type in to find your business.

Step 2: Make your content relevant Update the content, the text, on your homepage or product page to reflect your keywords. In the example above our content might now need to read like this:

"Ethnic Maori Kites
Ethnic Maori Kites, Manu or Manu pakau, are available to purchase here on our website. The art of kite flying has played an important part in Maori lifestyles . . . ."

Note the simple things you can do such as

  1. using your keywords/phrase in the main heading for your page
  2. including your keywords/phrase in the first paragraph especially and then throughout the rest of the page.

Remember that people will be reading the page too, so it must be readable and make sense for people.

Go change the content on your site if it needs it, get higher listings, get found and get customers.
